Display or battery on a 42mm Series 2?
Points to the display: the watch vibrates, chimes or appears in the Watch app, yet shows nothing on screen.
Points to the display: cracks spreading from the edge, touch that is dead or registers taps by itself, lines or flicker after a fall.
Points to the battery: no vibration, no chime and no connection at all, or a screen that is bulging away from the case.

If the screen is lifting
A raised display almost always means the battery has swollen behind it. Replace the battery in the same repair, or the new screen will be pushed out again and may crack. Open the watch with gentle heat and a thin blade, protect the short display cables, and seal with fresh adhesive.
