Plenty of 42mm Series 1 watches now live a second life on a child's wrist or as a spare for workouts. For a watch like that, buying new makes little sense. A low-cost replacement screen does.

This OLED display screen assembly is for the Apple Watch Series 1 in the larger 42mm case. Quality is OEM Pull, so the panel is Apple's own, recovered from another unit.

Is a Series 1 worth repairing?

It is when the rest of the watch still works. Check that it charges, vibrates and pairs before buying parts. If it does all three and only the screen is at fault, a display swap brings it back for a fraction of the cost of any newer model.

Screen faults on the 42mm Series 1

  • Cracked or chipped glass after a fall or knock.

  • A black or flickering display while the watch still buzzes.

  • Touch that fails across part of the screen.

  • Lines or blotches after an impact.

  • A panel lifted by a swollen battery, which needs a new battery as well.

Confirm the 42mm size engraved on the back before ordering, as the 38mm part is smaller. Use gentle heat and a thin blade, protect the short cables, and seal with fresh adhesive. Treat the repaired watch as splash resistant at most and keep it away from swimming.

For basic tracking and notifications, a repaired Series 1 still does the job.
