PlayStation 4

Details

Disc drives are one of the most common things to fail in an older PS4. The laser weakens over time, and the console starts struggling to read discs, takes longer to load or stops recognising them altogether.

This listing sells the KES-860A laser lens for PS4 CUH-11XX consoles. According to the listing, it fixes disc reading errors, unrecognised discs and slow loading.

When to replace the laser

Discs aren't recognised.
Reading errors or slow loading.
Clicking or grinding while reading, after the drive mechanism is ruled out.
A laser damaged after a drop.

Fitting tips

Before buying a laser, try cleaning the lens gently with a cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol, since dust alone can cause reading errors. If that doesn't help, check the label on the existing laser to confirm it's a KES-860A. Disconnect power completely, open the console and remove the disc drive. Open the drive casing, remove the old laser and fit the new one. Don't touch the lens surface, and make sure every connector is fully inserted.

Reassemble the console and test several discs. If they load and play normally, the drive is working again.
