Details

When the cover screen on a Galaxy Z Fold 5 goes black, a quick check helps: restart the phone, open it to confirm the inner screen works, and check that the cover screen isn't simply turned off in settings. If it's still dark, or there's visible damage, the outer OLED assembly is the fix.

This outer OLED assembly is the cover screen for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 5G, in one option for all phone colors, sold as an aftermarket part.

Symptoms of a damaged cover screen

Cracked or shattered glass.
Black screen after a restart while the inner screen works.
Lines, flicker or green tint after a drop.
Touch that doesn't respond, or responds in the wrong place.

The cover screen is glued in, so use gentle heat and thin picks to lift it, then disconnect its flex. Fit fresh adhesive and test the new screen before pressing it into place. Keep picks shallow so the flex cable underneath isn't cut.

Once replaced, the Fold 5 is back to one-handed use whenever it's closed, for calls, messages and quick checks on the go.
