Buying guide

How to choose a thermal camera

  • Resolution and focus. Small phone components need a camera that can focus close and resolve small hot spots.

  • Display. Some models have a built-in screen (e.g. the TB-08 Ultra with a 4-inch screen); check how each model shows the image.

  • Use with a DC supply. Inject a low voltage into the shorted rail and the faulty part shows as a hot spot.

FAQ

How does a thermal camera help in phone repair?

When a short draws current, the faulty component heats up. A thermal camera shows the hot spot so you don't need to remove parts one by one.

Can I use freeze spray instead?

Freeze spray also reveals hot components, but a thermal camera is faster, cleaner and works on parts under shields.

What else do I need?

A DC power supply to inject voltage into the shorted line, and a microscope to replace the component.
